Church History
1960 church

Residents of Valrico, known as the Improvement Association raised money to build a civic center.  In 1916, clay from the local area was used to make bricks that built a new bank building and the large civic building.  The civic center building is still in use today and was the original location of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.  A congregation of 30 first held services there on January 1, 1957.  In the late 1970s, the civic center, then home to the Woman’s Club, was reprocessed by Hillsborough County. The building was deeded to The Village Players.  The building became known is now the James McCabe Theater and is located at 5th Street, Valrico.

On October 30, 1960, at the corner of Front Street and Valrico Road, a new church was built and dedicated to Mr. Kiser, one of the original Vestry Members.  The Service of Dedication for our newly built church was held on the present property, with 185 persons present. By 1963, it was apparent that we were outgrowing that structure and a Parish Hall was built. The first service was held at the Parish Hall on January 5, 1964.  In 1973 the current Sunday School annex was completed and Holy Innocents parishioners worshipped in that building until the completion of our present sanctuary. In late 1986 the present sanctuary was completed and consecrated by Bishop E. Paul Haynes in February of 1987.  In 2005 the The Reverend Steve Rudacile retired and The Reverend Douglas Scharf joined Holy Innocents Episcopal Church as our new rector. The church has continued to grow to a current membership of over 200 households.
