HOLY INNOCENTS’ EPISCOPAL CHURCH CLERGY & STAFF
The Rev. Read Heydt
Interim Rector
Fr. Read is our interim rector. We are so excited to have him serve along with us as we continue to discern who we are and who God is calling to minister to Holy Innocents' as our full-time rector. We are grateful for the support we know that Fr. Read will be for us.

Here is a little bit of background on Fr. Read so you can get to know him better.

- He has been married to his wife Diane since 2014. They have a blended family that includes four adult sons and seven grandchildren.

- He graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary. He has served several parishes in Ohio, Georgia, and Florida.

- He retired in 2012 as rector of St. Andrew's in Boca Grande. Since retirement, he has also served as interim at St. David's in Englewood, FL, and has regularly served as a supply priest in the Sarasota/St. Petersburg area.

- He currently serves the Diocese of Southwest Florida as chaplain to retired clergy and spouses in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.

Fr. Read also has an extensive business background from the years before he became a priest. He and Diane are looking forward to their time here at Holy Innocents'!

What is your favorite part about being on the clergy at church?
I like helping with children's worship, preaching, teaching, occasionally officiating at services.

What is your favorite scripture verse or passage?
Jesus was influenced by the rich prophetic tradition of the Old Testament and was the fulfillment of it. Those ancient voices have shaped and guided me since I was in my teens. Examples. Isaiah: "I have called you to be a light for all peoples, a lamp for nations." Micah: "What it is that the Lord requires of you: only to act justly, to love loyally, and to walk humbly with your God." I must also include the Aaronic blessing (Numbers): "May the Lord bless you and guide you.. May the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look kindly upon you and give you peace."

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
We are retired. We enjoy our family and friends. We enjoy domestic and foreign travel. We enjoy live theater and probably see at least 20 productions a year. We enjoy taking various Olli courses for retired people sponsored by USF. I swim five days a week, incorporating all four competitive strokes in my workouts. I workout in the gym and take yoga. I enjoy reading, especially American and European history. I am on call to take services in parishes throughout the diocese and beyond. I am a certified swim coach (part-time) at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center.
