Linda Hughes-Kirchubel

Mission & Outreach

Linda Hughes-Kirchubel is a member of our Vestry at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church.

What is your favorite scripture verse or passage?
My favorite verse is, “Cast all your anxiety upon Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). I heard a sermon on this verse. In it, the priest noted that the word “cast” as originally written was the same word you’d use if you were getting rid of really foul garbage on a trash heap—a physically strong act that takes effort, not at all the same as “toss” or “throw.” This spoke to me. The verse reminds me to put my faith in the Lord and that even in dark times, He has my back.

What brought you to worship at Holy Innocents’?
The first time we attended Holy Innocents’, it happened to be a Sunday when the 2019 Angel Tree was announced. I learned that the children served would be those with an incarcerated parent. To me, the outreach to families of the incarcerated was a sign that Holy Innocents’ was where we needed to be. Throughout the pandemic, I have seen how Holy Innocents’ has responded to a historic crisis that impacts our congregation, our community, and our world. Holy Innocents’ has reinforced, through a difficult year, the many ways that God cares for us as individuals and families. I am grateful to be part of this community.
